Aquaculture
Approximately two dozen fish and aquatic plant farms operate in Miami-Dade County. Ornamental fish make up the bulk of the county's production, although there are two large food fish facilities. The UF Extension Service provides disease diagnosis and technical assistance to the county's fish farmers. Prospective aquaculturists can receive accurate, unbiased information concerning the business potential of aquatic organisms. Additionally, the UF Extension Service guides new fish farmers through the permitting process.
